Day 3 and 4 Post Op

Days 3 and 4 Post Op

This is the window where most get restless and seem to regress before getting better again.  Trying to keep calm.  He is doing well (getting around, eating well, pottying fine, seeking us out here and there) but the meds make him stare and pant a lot and that distresses me, though I am pretending that it does not so I don’t show him worry.  He hasn’t perked up and sometimes just stares and pants at times. He couldn’t tolerate Tramadol so just Gabapentin round the clock (with antibiotic and a decreasing dosage to wean him off of steroids that he was taking before surgery). Was also taking Gabapentin before surgery.

He doesn’t sleep it seems…every time I hear the jingle of his tags, I’m hyper-alert…even in sleep.  I can’t seem to find anything to make him calmer or satisfied.    I worry that the meds are not enough.

Have consulted with the poor vet techs several times and his behavior is normal and he hasn’t done things that indicate pain so it’s just hard recovery.  I think the vet techs have written a note in the chart to say that I am crazy.  He got up yesterday suddenly to bolt and bark at back door when he heard a loud truck. That’s our Bacca. Poor baby whined when he got up as he forgot he needs to take it slow. We have to keep on leash while potty until stitches out. Stitches out and cone off on Sat. July 9. Can’t wait. He’s such a trooper.

So thankful he is eating, drinking and going potty.
