Day 7 Post Op

Day 7 Post Op

morealertbaccaVery quiet day with Bacca sleeping much of the day again and waking up periodically for food and potty and water. When he heard the front door open a couple of times, he came out trotting to see if he had a new visitor. I think he was sad to see it was just us. HA!

He is still not interested in any of his toys, but he is appreciating the brush on his good side and as much as I can do around his neck with that stupid cone on.  He loves being brushed. When we first rescued him he actually snapped at me when I tried to brush him for the first time. I don’t think his owner ever brushed him or he had a bad experience but I don’t know. But he came to love being brushed. He so cute when you brush him and he’s not done and he will do his paw up on you to tell you he wants more. But he doesn’t have that capability anymore because he has only one leg to lean on.  That hits me.  It reminds me how a few days ago I realized he could no longer “shake” and it made me so sad I also started thinking about how we would call him thoroughbred because he would run like the wind in what we refer to as frenzy mode. I hope to see him going to frenzy mode again someday. But I remember to be happy seeing him more relaxed and recuperating. I go back to work tomorrow but fortunately my husband works from home and will be around with him.
See how much more alert and expressive his eyes are?

  1. It may not seem like it, but Bacca is doing great for only being 1 week out. But I also know how it feels to be stressed and sleep deprived! There’s no reason he can’t be your “thoroughbred” again in the future. My front amp Dobe can still run like the wind chasing squirrels. And I’ve found it really doesn’t do any good thinking about what they can or can’t do anymore, or how it won’t be the same as it was. Embrace the new normal, celebrate every milestone; appreciate the journey you’re on. In other words, “be more dog”. Tripawds Rock!

    1. Thank you, Paula and Nitro! You are so correct in everything you say. I find myself correcting any sad thoughts I have when I realize how well he is doing and how fortunate we are to have him with us. I am so happy to hear he will be a thoroughbred again and your words of wisdom or so appreciated.
